The Graduate Record Examination or GRE is used for testing the English of all students who apply for universities in the United States. The test consists of two parts. The quantitative aptitude involves all mathematics related questions and the other English aptitude involves verbal reasoning abilities. The English reasoning is the most difficult part of the test as it needs proper control over the words and grammar. There are over ten thousand English words and the test requires at least five thousand words memorized. The words are all college level and cannot be cracked without proper practice and usage. The preparation is done over several weeks or in some cases even months. The memorizing of words is quite difficult owing to the limited usage of these. However, once mastered it gives huge results. The English words can be read from the Barron’s GRE handbook. It has a comprehensive collection of about three thousand odd words and hence happens to be the best one available in the market. The quantitative section consists of all maths related questions which can be tackled by a person with quantitative reasoning skills. The test is completed within 3 hours and also consists of an analytical writing section for testing the skills of the candidates.
